Are You Ready for Shedding Season? ๐Ÿชฎ

โ€‹

Warmer weather has made it to Portland and the fur is flying!

โ€‹

Do you have everything you need to help your furry family members get through this shedding season?

โ€‹

Plenty of hay and water are the most important things you can provide to your pet during a seasonal shed. Try offering a 2nd variety hay to encourage them to eat more and give them plenty of fresh water to help with gut motility and hydration.

โ€‹

Brush their fur as needed depending on the length and type. Hopefully you are not seeing any "stringy poop" in the litter box, but if you are, it's definitely time to for a brush out.
โ€‹
Some of our favorite combs and brushes:
โ€‹

  • โ€‹Hairbuster - Great for longer fur and light dematting
  • โ€‹SleekEZ - Gentle and easy to clean
  • โ€‹Rubber Brush - Effective and works on a variety of fur types

โ€‹

Even with regular brushing, your pet will ingest some fur and likely end up eating more than usual during shedding season. Feeding a Digestive Support Supplement supports a healthy gut and is recommended for pets with especially sensitive GI tracts.

โ€‹

โ€‹

โ€‹Recovery Food is good to have on hand in case your pet needs a little extra fiber during shedding season or encouragement to eat after being diagnosed with GI stasis or another health issue.
โ€‹
Note: We do not recommend force feeding recovery food at the onset of symptoms of GI stasis. When in doubt, consult with your regular vet or another medical professional to rule out a blockage and create a recovery plan that is best suited for your pet.

โ€‹

Did you know there is currently a shortage of Critical Care? We are sold out of the Fine Grind and Apple Banana but have a few more bags of Critical Care Anise 454g available. We also stock Sherwood Recovery Food which is a quality recovery food that some bunnies prefer. Sherwood recommends pairing it with Appetite Restore, which is also available in their ready to go Emergency Kit for Rabbits.

Like many of you, we were saddened by the recent loss of three cherished bunny friends: Lennon the Bunny and Miffy & Mikka. Each of them brought a special kind of joy, comfort, and gentle magic into the world โ€” the kind that lingers long after they've gone. In moments like these, weโ€™re reminded how important it is to allow space for grief โ€” to name it, sit with it, and be supported through it. If youโ€™re navigating a similar journey, we invite you to read our recent blog post: The Full Circle...

Summer weather is almost here and while we may enjoy more sunshine, our small pets feel differently. Rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and other small pets can easily overheat, so itโ€™s important to help them stay cool, hydrated, and comfy when temperatures rise. ๐Ÿก Keep them in well-ventilated, air-conditioned spaces, especially chinchillas, who are extra sensitive to hot weather ๐ŸงŠ Cool down warmer environments with moist cloth pads or mats, chilled tiles, or frozen water bottles wrapped in...

Have you ever considered fostering a bunny? Local rescue Rabbit Advocates has an urgent need for fosters for buns like Milo, who went on KATU Afternoon Live with us a few weeks ago. Fostering is a great way to help a bunny in need with support from a rescue and fosters can adopt if they fall in love with their foster bunny. Find out more and apply to foster with Rabbit Advocates here. Want to foster but live outside of the Portland Metro? WabbitWiki has a great state-by-state list of rescues...
